Late Check Out

I was wondering if anyone is familar with "Late check out" and how to go about requesting it. We're not leaving out of Hawaii until 8:30pm and not sure what we're going to do regarding time from check out until we need to go to airport. I know the hotel will store your bags for you, but would love to do something and still be able to freshen up.

Mlarsen, you'll need to talk to your hotel directly, ahead of time, find out what their policies are, what they might offer to let you do. Every one is different! You'll need to talk to them.....

mlarson - I think this is a very common request, as many of the flights back to the mainland leave in the evening. We had the same issue recently (Waikiki Parc Hotel). We inquired about it at check-in and they put a note in our record, but told us that we would need to talk to the desk personnel on the morning of our departure to confirm it based on their most current record of arrivals and departures (we were able to extend out check-out to 4pm).

I also believe that a number of the hotels have a hospitality room that you can use to clean up, change, etc., during the day, once you've checked out.

Obviously, it depends on the hotel. Regardless, it's doubtful that you could get late checkout (without paying extra) for more than a couple hours or so.
Assuming you would leave for the airport sometime between 6 and 6:30, it's doubtful that you'd get a free late checkout for that long.
Of course, if the hotel is booked up, then forget about any late checkout!
And, if the hotel does have some flexibility in allowing a late checkout, chances are that they wouldn't give a firm answer until the day you are leaving.

Many hotels impose a 50% charge for a checkout as late as 6 pm and that's only if they're not sold out that night.

Some hotels also offer day rooms for exactly this purpose and the cost is very low- $30 or so. But decide if you really need a room. Maybe you can get a late checkout for 1 pm, lay by the pool until just before 1 then be packed, just shower and change. Leave the bags with the front desk and go have a nice leisurly lunch and do some last minute window shopping, etc. This shouldn't get you all messed up! Grab your bags, head to the airport, viola!

Thanks everyone. I think our best bet is to touch base at check-in and then check back with them that morning as they'll have their latest info by then.
