Last minute hotels for Maine road trip.

Thinking about flying into Boston next week and spending a week driving the coast of Maine. Can we find last minute lodging or must we book ahead. Looking to pay less (hopefully a LOT less) than $200 a night.
Any advice helpful.

I would not count on being able to find lodging at the last minute along the coast of Maine in late July. We made that mistake once...

You would need to start looking early in the day....dreadful way to vacay IMHO!!!! I live in OOB and often see vacancy signs in the morning....gone in the afternoon. Bon chance!!!

Nope, not a good week for last-minute lodging, and probably not too easy to find anything even if you try and book ahead.

We ended up waiting in a line at a campground for a cancellation in summer and were lucky to get a spot.....we also lucked out with a vacancy at a motel but we had cows right outside and when the wind blew it wasn't pretty.

September would be easier...best of luck! It is a beautiful if you get lucky.

You have a chance if you aren't fussy and try less popular towns and look for non-chain places. Check places in Brunswick. It's a college town and close to the coast. Good base for exploring mid-coast.
