Hi.

I haven't been in the forums for a while and was looking at posts in preparation for my upcoming trip. I'll be there in October, too.
I have front row tickets for Mystere (I've seen it before, but this will be my girlfriend's first time for Mystere) and we have orchestra level seats for Elton John.

I've seen all of the Cirque shows in Vegas and have enjoyed them all for different reasons. Since they are all different, the thing you really liked about one show may be non-existent in another. I've seen comments from people who loved Mystere, but thought Zumanity was appalling. The shows are both Cirque du Soleil productions, but they have little in common thematically. Please read more about 'Ka' before letting one person's comment deter you from seeing the show. With that in mind, don't take my review as the final answer either. It is just my opinion.

Here is my 'Ka' review:

I saw 'Ka' in December while it was still in previews, so it may have changed a little between the time I saw it and the time you saw it. It is officially open now so things really shouldn't change from here on out.
'Ka' is a bit of a departure from the typical Cirque show. They have focused less on the acrobatics (although the feats are still a big part of the show) and concentrated more on a coherent story. The production was very operatic. I was able to follow it and understand the journey, but I was also aware of the story before seeing the show. The twins are separated during an attack in the very beginning. An evil group takes one of the twins. That twin eventually escapes and the show follows the life and journey of both twins back to each other.

Even though the production was operatic, the music was not as memorable as that of the other Cirque shows. It was OK, but not great. (I later found out that when the production schedule changed and everything was put on hold while they investigated the stage construction accident, they lost the original composer). The stage and the staging were incredible. You need to be at the theater at least 15 minutes before the show in order to get the full experience and see the characters running and flying from the catwalks which surround the audience. The preshow announcement was very well done. Nothing was spoken. It was acted out by a few of the characters on the railing at the front of the stage. I was disappointed that the surround staging was lost once the actual show started. I did find myself paying more attention to the technical elements than the story from time to time, but I think that is true of all the Cirque shows. Part of the spectacle is the use of technology.

If you can only see one Cirque show, I think Mystere is the best choice. Mystere seems to have a more universal appeal.

Take Care,
Mark

Sounds like Ka is more like the Journey of Man movie, plus the opera.

I was disapointed by the Journey of Man.

We saw Clint Holmes over Labor Day. We really enjoyed his show, including my 21 year old daughter. Fun show! I purchased the tickets at Tickets2night. I believe all three tickets ran just over $100.

Some other suggestions if they are in town...Harvey Korman & Tim Conway, also, Penn & Teller, Lance Burton & The Amazing Jonathan. Last time I was in town I was fortunate enough to catch Bob Newhart.
