Hi. We're going to LV in April, spending 3 nts at Treasure Island, then going to the Grand Canyon, Zion, something like that for five nights, then back to LV for 3 more nts. To save some money, we were thinking of staying off-strip the last 3 nts. Any recommendations or suggestions either way, or are we better off staying on strip? It's myself,husband, and 10 & 15 yr olds.

The Gold Coast has clean & well maintained rooms that usually run about $50/night...my experience in July: the staff was pleasant, the pool area was clean & well maintained, there are a variety of restaurants. It's off the strip, across the street from the Palms.

i've often stayed at the super 8 on koval. it is directly behind balley's and about a 3 block walk to the strip. it's basic but always clean and friendly staff. currently the rooms with 2 queen beds go for about $55/night.

Go to www.biddingfortravel.com and see what the last recorded price was for the JW Marriott in the "northwest" Priceline zone. It's the only "resort" that's come up in the area, so the chances are great that you'll get it if you bid for resort-level in that area only. (See biddingfortravel for how-tos.)

We got rooms there around Christmas for $70 a night or so, and it's one of the most lovely hotels we've stayed at anywhere. Fabulous pool and outdoor areas, and a couple of blocks away is the Suncoast complex, with hotel, low-rollers casino, multiplex cinema, shopping center, and bowling alley all under one roof.

It's all around 20 min. from the strip or airport, close to the Red Rocks parks (great hiking and sightseeing) and plenty of high-end shopping and restaurants for locals, not the mobs on the strip.

I've stayed at the Orleans and would highly recommend it. It is the same company as Gold Coast and Barbary. They offer a free shuttle between those properties. Clean, good sized rooms, decent food. Rooms can often be had for $49. Gold Coast is across the street from the Palms which your teenager may appreciate seeing.

You'll $ave if you can arrange your trip so that your Vegas nights are weekdays instead of weekends.

The Orleans has a bowling alley, arcade & movie theatres so its a perfect place for the kids. Gold Coast is usually less expensive and has a free shuttle bus to the Orleans and to the strip.

We've stayed at the Orleans many times during our convention week. We have always had a good experience as far as the hotel, room, casino goes. My only complaint was the buffet as I felt we were eating with the hotel workers and not experiencing an upscale hotel buffet. That being said, the rooms, pool area, etc. are a bargain and you can't go wrong with this hotel.

This year, instead of the Orleans we will try the Tuscany Hotel and Casino, which is a little closer to the strip and looks more affordable than most strip hotels. If anyone has stayed at the Tuscany, maybe they can give a review.

I WOULD TRY THE ORLEANS, ESPECIALLY WITH KIDS. YOU CAN STAY THERE FOR ABOUT $50.00 A NIGHT AND THE ROOMS ARE LARGE, AND NICE. ON THE SECOND FLOOR ARE 18 THEATERS AND A BOWLING ALLEY. THERE IS ALSO A SHUTTLE FROM THE ORLEANS TO THE STRIP IF YOU WANT TO GO THERE. HAVE FUN!
