A dear friend, who has rheumatoid arthritis, has expressed an interest in visiting Las Vegas (1st time). She is not really disabled -- works full time, travels occasionally -- but is worried about the amount of walking required in LV. We would be staying in a convenient mid-Strip location, probably the Flamingo, Bally's, Venetian or Bellagio, and wouldn't be leaving the area of the Strip. Does anyone know if motorized scooters are available for rent at these, or any other Strip properties?

I "promised" my friend that someone on Fodor's would be able to answer this question. This is not my 1st trip to Vegas, but it is hers, and I think we'd be able to do a lot more if she didn't get too tired-out from walking. Now that EVERYONE should be awake, I'm sending the message back to the top.

Don't know about Vegas hotels specifically but I had to arrange a scooter for a speaker at meetings I've done in a couple of cities. If you google for local surgical supply houses you will find one that will either rent scooters or tell you who does.

Hi Donna I remember seeing a few people using scooters in Las Vegas. Try calling your hotel concierge and explain the situation and when you will be staying there, I'm sure you'll get some help. Don't forget to write down the name of the concierge and give them a little something when you get there!

Motorized scooters can take some time for people to learn to navigate effectively and safely, especailly if they are borrowed/rented - seating can be specific to person's height and weight.

Another option to add to your list of considerations is to rent a manual wheelchair - these can fold easily to fit in trunk of cab, fit more easily at tables for dining, etc. Each has its advantages and disadvantages.
