Las Vegas in April with 2 teenagers

Hi,

We'll be in Las Vegas the first week of April. We have two teenagers, girl 18, boy 15 and are staying @ the Wyndham Grand Desert. Any thoughts on the Wyndham, it's a timeshare trade and we can't change it, so hopefully it's good. We're doing an overnight to the Grand Canyon and staying @ the Thunderbird Lodge. We are planning on also doing the Hoover Dam tour and maybe something on Lake Mead. Anybody recommend anything? We are not big gamblers, but are looking to see a show or two. Maybe one of the Cirque shows, Beatle's Love? Maybe Mac King? We plan on spend a day\night walking the strip and another just relaxing @ our timeshare. Any info\ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

tj

Take the long way around to Lake Mead, over through Valley of Fire Park first and then back around.

Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire, Death Valley, just type in Las Vegas in the search box and you will find lots of threads on this.

Just be aware that you can;t go into any of the casinos with the kids - they are very serious about barring minors.

My kids (as teens) loved Las Vegas and we don't gamble at all. They liked the Cirque shows, Madame Tussaud's, the roller coaster rides at New York hotel (not for the faint at heart), lots of good restaurants and buffets, and swimming in the huge hotel pools. On one trip there we took them to Hoover Dam and they liked that a lot too.

All of the cirque shows are good in their own way. I couldn't really pick a best. They are all well done shows. You can get tickets at outlets that are much cheaper than buying within the hotel. Virtually all seats are "good" because the theaters are designed for the show. Personally I find sitting at least midway back from the stage is better than up front (it's too close I think).

Kids can go into the hotels, they just cannot go into the gaming area itself.

Several sizes of boats are for rent by the hour at the Lake Meade Marina. My wife and I and our son and his family went out near the dam and up to the north shore. I think we all got sunburn since we went swimming and did not reapply sunscreen.
There is a zipline ride under the Fremont Street Experience.
I saw several people ride it in the daytime last Thursday.

I think Vegas is a great place for all ages, you just have to find the right things for your age groups. I just moved to the Vegas area in 2010 and have brought my 11-yo daughter to the Strip several times when she comes to visit. I highly recommend you sign up for some alerts from services or shows you are interested in, incuding the Cirque website. There's a great local radio show and website called KSHP.com that has 100s of discunts on Shows, Restuarants, Entertainment, Spas & Salons. You can listen to the show streaming on the web to get a taste. You best time is during the Spring Marathon at the beginning of March to pick up some incredible deals. I hear folks call in from all over the country to pick up deals before they arrive. Most all the discunts are good for 90 days so that should cover your trip period. Download the shopperguide and check out all the deals, incuding the travel section. I just recently got a 7-day nice hotel in Orlando for $199. This summer we went to San Diego w/ a hotel deal and Zoo tickets.
I hope you and your family have a great time and come back to see us again.
