Las Vegas hotel choice

I'm going to Las Vegas for a conference at the Rio in March. Where should I stay that is in walking distance?

The only hotel within walking distance of the Rio is the Rio itself. You should stay there.

True...just stay at the Rio. Why wouldn't you?

The Rio is off the strip about 2 miles but is a very nice, popular place. AND...just between us guys ;-)...outstanding cocktail waitress outfits!!

Is it unadvisable to walk from the Rio to the Strip? I'm in great shape. Thought maybe I could get a good deal at a much better hotel and walk. The Bellagio comes to mind...

The Rio has free shuttles that leave regularly for the strip, which is just on the other side of the interstate from it. Lots of folks love the Rio. I hear the rooms are huge. And the food is supposed to be good. I ate at their cafe before seeing Penn and Tellers show and it was excellent.

Just a thought that if you're attending the conference then maybe you could get the shuttle pass for the Rio and stay at the Bellagio (which would be my first choice if I could only afford it).

It really isn't feasible to walk to/from the Rio as you have to cross the interstate. I have stayed at the Rio and it has plenty of restaurants and the rooms are huge and contain a refrigerator and coffee maker which is unheard of in Las Vegas.
Take the shuttle to the strip or a taxi to the Forum Shops at Caesars as you won't have to wait in traffic while watching the meter run up and you can always walk out of Caesars once they drop you off.

The Palms is right across the street from the Rio, you may have seen it featured on The REal World. It's where Brittney was staying on the night she got "married".

Both hotels have free strip shuttles.

I've seen the above comment before. Why do people think Rio is "right across the street" from the Palms?
Not even close.
4321 W Flamingo vs. 3700 W Flamingo is 0.75 miles.
That's more than 13 football field lengths of walking.
