I'm seeing the Strat as a "mystery" hotel on Hotwire for $6 a night plus the $40 resort fee. Free parking. How bad could it be? I'm literally only going to sleep there.

I like the idea of staying away from the strip, but am trying to sort out the pros and cons. To my body, the flight will land in LV 11:30pm (9:30pm West Coast time) -- after an intense work day. So I might not pick up the rental car until the next morning. If I do that I will need transportation to the hotel -- then back to the rental car facility the next morning. I don't think it affects the price of the rental car if I pick it up 10pm -- or 10am the next morning.

It may affect the cost by a factor of the rental day count if you are more than an hour "past due". It all depends on your return time.

You may save $ by saving airport fees if you pick up at a non-airport location (Enterprise).

The cost of transportation to the Stratosphere and back might negate the savings on room. If I were arriving that late, I'd probably opt for one of the hotels about 2 blocks right around the corner from the rental car center (check google maps). In the morning you could get right onto the interstate.
btw, Las Vegas time zone same as California, but Utah is Mountain time.

Right now, an Uber to the Strat is $16.
An Uber to the LaQuinta is $12.

Not too bad.

Well, this is crazy!
The rates have plunged. I wonder if people are canceling their reservations because of fears of the Corona virus.

So ... I'm holding a reservation for a compact car with Dollar (on the strip) for $111.96! That's less than half the price of a few days ago. For $131 I could book through Costco and get a compact car with Hertz -- also on the strip. I will likely book a refundable reservation at Circus Circus because it's only a couple of blocks from the car rental. It's under $60 including the resort fees--and I'm not fussy.

It's interesting that the non-major companies have NOT lowered their rates.
