There is a shuttle from the Rio (off Strip) to Ceasars (the Strip). There is a small monorail from the Bellagio to the hotel next door, the Monte Carlo I think? And there is a monrail from Ballys to Mandalay Bay (I am pretty sure those are the hotels.)
But mostly, you walk! on the sidewalks which are wide and full of people day and night and quite safe.

Been to Vegas many times staying on the strip and downtown-Sams Town has many shuttles leaving from Stardust, Bourban Street, Harrahs, San Remo, Fremont, and Calif. Hotels-they're clean and free-of course tips are accepted. Go to Sams Town.com for schedules -you might have to spend anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hour at Sams while waiting for the next bus to your Hotel destination-but they seem to be on time according to their schedules! Also according to info. I received on vegas.com there is a shuttle between The Orleans and Barbary Coast that leaves every 20 min.- I beleive there is a monorail also between MGM and Ballys.

We stayed at the Barbary Coast and they ran shuttles to the Gold Coast and The Orleans, these were free, we used the one to the Gold coast as it has a very nice Italian Restaurant and is also handy for the Rio next door. For anywhere on the Strip or for Freemont Street or the Belz Mall use the buses, they're every couple of minutes 24hrs a day.

Yes, as other posters indicate. Some casino's that are owned under the same property provide shuttle services to same-property locations. Check Harrah's, Park Place and Mirage properties (you can access each group hotel via "Cheapovegas.com", a neat site for a lot of Vegas info). Free trams connect: Mandalay Bay to Luxor to Excalibur; MGM to Bally's; Monte Carlo to Bellagio; and Mirage to Treasure Island. These work well - if you want to get from one of the anchor casino's to the other - but not as well if you want to access a non-served casio. But plan to walk a lot along the strip area - unless you are planning to see a lot of stuff all around Vegas. Strip trollies, public buses or taxi's are everywhere, but the strip gets awfully congested during the evening and into the night - especially on weekends.
