Las Vegas 1st timer help

First time and so exited! Stating at Mandalay Bay THEhotel. I know this will spoil me for when I have to pay for the room next time! I will be spending most of the time by myself. I plan on just staying on the strip seeing whatever and playing some slots. Is it worth the trouble to join the slots or players club? Where do you think is a good place to play slots? Are the coupons worth hunting down? Thanks.

Since this is your first visit, you probably will not be in any one place long enough to accumulate many points.

If you read through the in-room weekly magazines there will be adds showing the latest club promotions. Unless you see something you intended to try anyway, like $20 off show tickets at that casino, or a free meal don't waste your time joining the casino's club. Recent promotions included free admission to The Star Trek Experience, a $25 value at the Las Vegas Hilton. Great if you are a Star Trek fan, but useless otherwise.

The monorail should be open for business in the spring, which would make it easier for you to get around and try your luck in many casinos, till you find the one that suits you best.

There is no need to hunt down coupons. They are everywhere. The Rio passes out 2 for 1 coupons for its shows before and after the free masquerade show. Same day show tickets for half price lcan be found next to the MGM.

Enjoy your first trip, consider it an appetizer of what is available to plan for your next trip.

We always join the club at our hotel, the points add up pretty fast and you can get lots of free stuff pretty easily.

Slot clubs work in that you get points for every WINNING HAND and can redeem points for cash or comps (food). If you will only be in vegas for or short time or don't plan on serious gambling the card is not worth it. The best odds are off stip - like The Palms, Rio, or the Orleans, and Gold Coast. Sometimes you will get a comp for just signing up at an off strip casino. There will be plenty of fliers around with coupons. Have fun.
