Lake Tahoe with kids
Has anyone taken a family trip to Tahoe. We were thinking of going next winter. I thought it had something for everyone. Skiing for the kids and some night life for the adults. I would appreciate it if someone could let me know if thre are any kid friendly areas. Or should I just stick with Colorado. My kids are 16 and 12. I would never take them to Vegas. But, I thought Tahoe would be beautiful in the winter.
Thanks so much

Lake Tahoe is quite kid-friendly. I isn't like Las Vegas at all. The casinos are a relatively small part of the Lake Tahoe area. There is a strip of glitzy casinos at south shore, right on the California/Nevada state line and then a few smaller, quieter casinos on north shore near the state line. That's it.
When we go to Lake Tahoe, we like to stay in condos and cabins rather than hotels - more room, generally nicer surroundings, and we have a kitchen at hand.
There is a place in South Lake Tahoe called Lakeland Village that has nice townhouses and condos. It is on the California side, so no casinos and it is right on the lake so you've got great views. It is pretty close to the casinos at Stateline - 5 minutes drive maybe - so you can easily drive over for gambling, shows, or the buffet. It is in the town of South Lake Tahoe, so there are also plenty of things close by like restaurants and shops.
For north shore, I like Brockway Springs resort in Kings Village - also condos and townhouses right on the lake with some great views. This is a more quiet area, but only a short drive to the north shore casinos - 10-15 minutes.
For a more woodsy place, Zephyr Cove resort is terrific - cabins right on the lake, in the trees, boat dock, restaurant on site. I think they have snowmobiling right from the place. It is more secluded, but no more than a 15-20 minute drive from either north shore or Stateline if you want to go to the casinos.

I would suggest flying into Reno, renting a SUV and drive over to Incline Village, NV on the north shore to the Hyatt Resort & Casino. They have 2 bedroom Lakeside cottage/units, the hotel itself, with new room additions called spa terrace, and on the other side of the hotel are their High Sierra Time Shares (sleeps 8)which can be rented in advance.(we own a week) We've been taking our kids and grandchild there for years. They have a new Spa and fantastic pool heated during the snow season - great for families.
They have a free ski shuttle bus leaving every half hour for Diamond Peak about a mile up the road, or you could go to several other ski places (Alpine, NorthStar or Squaw about a half hour+ away and pick up by bus at the hotel).
We go different places during the week.
Also, it's an easy 25 min. to the south shore which is fun to walk around the five casinos, go to a movie or have dinner. It's very kid friendly. However, Incline Village has some great restaurants too, especially the Lone Eagle Grill at the lake.

We loved our stay at Granlibakken, or something like that...they offer meals with the unit and cater to large groups...
I loved Tahoe and would go back, although I pray it is not wet snow again, unlike Colorado and Utah which is much drier snow.
