Lake Tahoe

We will be in Lake Tahoe Sept. 15-20. Should we break up the lodging between the South and the North side to minimize driving? Suggestion for itinerary? What is the weather like? What to pack?

Thank you.

Tahoe is not big enough to wrrent moving your lodging form one area to the enxt. Though driving fully aorund the lake does take like an hour or so driving one end to the next is not time consuming.

The weather should be wonderful. Warm days and cool nights. Shorts or jeans and a t in the day. Sweatshirt at night.

I agree with Suzie. Stay in one place. Bring clothing layers. It is significantly cooler when the sun goes down.

I agree with both Suzie and elnap, but do note that the South and North shores are completely different in "ambiance". What are you looking for -- hiking, biking, etc? Casinos and shows?

You asked, what's the weather like?
There are more than 100 overpaid meteorologists on TV getting it wrong season after season and you ask an online community for weather predictions during Sept 15-20 on the 5th?

Shoot, sounds like you might end up ping-ponging between Riva's and Gar Woods the whole week.

If you're a smoker or have a reason to be near Truckee, Northstar (mtn biking), Boomtown (Cabela's anyone?) Carson City (obvious) or Reno then stay part time there --- otherwise consider staying near the larger casino hotels at southshore.

Remember: Nevada police have zero tolerance for the felony that is marijuana.

It won't be all that warm in "degrees" - but will feel warm even at 70º. So you will want some shorts or lightweight pants. But at night/early AM it can be downright cold. So I always plan on layers and take a fleece/jacket.

I agree w/ the others. I wouldn't split the stay either - depending on where you end up.

I agree with all the previous writers. I'm in Tahoe on the South Shore. It's been in the high 70's the last few days and it's about 60 right now. Bring a jacket or sweater for nighttime and early morning outings, bring shorts for the days. This is our favorite time of year, but always remember that Tahoe weather can change quickly and it has been known to snow in EVERY month of the year. You'll love the rides around the lake and exploring the old mansions now owned by the Forest service (like Valhalla) and the old town of Truckee as well as hiking the Rim Trail or the top of Tallac. Oh yes - and casinos! Have a wonderful visit!
