Lake Placid, NY lodging

I'm looking to take a get away weekend to Lake Placid some time this summer. Don't need spa or fancy amenities, but would like a very comfortable room with some charm. B&B, hotel, etc all ok. Walking distance to restaurants preferred.

Any personal recommendations?

I chose Lake Placid for location (~90min drive), scenery, and activities (good place for a nice bike ride & swim).

J62, I have been researching places in the Lake Placid area to stop for a few days on my way back from VT in Sept. I'm looking for the same things you are - relax, swim, bike, hike, etc. It seems that most of the places in Lake Placid are family resort type places, which will probably have a lot of kids running around in summer.

Schroon Lake, about 40 min. away, seems to have a lot of B&B's. I booked the Silver Spruce Inn, which looks rather nice, has a lot of property and is right on the Schroon River, and a few miles to the lake. Another one I was looking at was the Schroon Lake B&B, which also looks nice.

Thanks panecott. Hadn't considered Schroon. That would also be close to rafting and a shorter drive. Also chewing on the Berkshires - maybe a bike ride up Mt. Greylock for fun.

Next weekend (July 22nd) is the Lake Placid Ironman triathlon! About 2,500 entrants and all the attending hoopla.

yeah, the ironman is this weekend! Not in good enough shape for a full ironman. Maybe by next year. That's the bike route I'd look to take. The trip I'm planning is in mid Aug.

I'm impressed you're even considering it, that's terrific!

I'll be near Lake Winnipesaukee mid-August for the Timberman Half-Ironman and then hanging out for the following week. But I'm not an entrant!! Just a hangers-on (or I could be generous and call myself my partner's support team - LOL).
