Lake Placid in October

We are thinking of visiting the Mirror Lake Inn in Lake Placid around October 15. I've been told that some places close after Columbus Day, and we'd be visiting right after that. We have 2 teenagers and a well-traveled 4 yr.old, and I want to be sure there will be enough to do. Does the place shut down after Columbus Day?

What is the weather and foliage like in mid-October?

After Columbus Day we tend to get a lot of conventions. Restaurants and some stores may close early or for a few days, but that would probably be around the beginning of November. You should be fine.

The weather can be anywhere from warm to snow. It can really vary. We had frost warnings last week and some nights it was only in the 30's. Chances are though, it will probably be in the 50's and maybe 60's, dipping down to 40's at night.

Mirror Lake Inn is one of my all time favorite places. Great rooms and food.

I think it will be past foliage time though. Some of the rooms have fireplaces. Also, the lobby is wonderful...big stone fireplaces, lots of comfy chairs, books, games, and the best chocolate chip cookies ever.

Take a ride over to the Olympic training center where they train for ski jump...lots of fun.

Hope this helps...

Thanks to both of you. We are still thinking, but Mirror Lake does seem to be a good choice.

It's definitely a great choice! One of the best locations in town and very romantic but they're won't be much time for that with the young uns I guess. It has a nice spa too.
