Going to the Big E in Springfield, MA...lookin for accomodations for one night

My wife and I are bringing our two children to the Big E on Sept. 30th, and thought it would be nice to make a weekend getaway out of it, so we're looking at different accomodations in the Springfield area. We have it narrowed down to a Residence Inn which will run us $189 with breakfast, or a Day's Inn which will be $89 without breakfast. Has anyone out there stayed at one of these two hotels? Any suggestions? We're leaning toward the Residence Inn because it got good reviews on Tripadvisor.
Much thanks in advance.

Sorry, Ken. We've stayed three different places down the road in Hadley. But never in Springfield. But I've been curious since I first saw this post. May I ask what the Big E is?

The "Big E" is the Eastern States Exposition. Like a county fair, but for the 6 New England states. It's huge.

I live in Western Mass. Just remind me the address for each of these hotels...i think one is actually in Holyoke Mass not Springfield but I could be wrong.
Just realize that traffic will be bad so the closer you are to the Big E the better. Also you can buy discounted tickets ahead of time which will save you standing in line when you get there.
How old are the kids?
What else do you plan to do?
I can give some suggestions based on how old they are...

Nohoborn,...The Residence Inn is on 64 Border Way, and the Days Inn is 437 Riverdale St.....both are in West Springfield. My boys are both 5 1/2 years old (twins). We're planning on staying over just one night and drive back home Sunday, so we're not going to have much time for anything else.
Thanks for the tip on the tickets...I'll check out the website

I think you probably get what you pay for. The Residence Inn will be more comfortable, and the Day's Inn will be less expensive.

West Springfield has a lot of traffic, malls and big-box stores, nothing fancy, but ok for an overnight.

Have fun at the Big E!

Ok now I realize where they are...either will be fine...just leave enough time for traffic. make sure you don't miss the section towrds the back of the Big E grounds that has all the small animals. the 5 year olds will likely enjoy that...I think they call it "farmorama" or something like that. Also they usually have a daily parade that the kids will like. You will be able to get a good idea of what is going on on the website. We see a lot of parents dragging kids thru the state buildings. In my opinion it's a waste of time as most stuff in the buildings is way above a 5 year old and they will be bored silly. Just my opinion. Have a great time.
