Lake accomodations in NY/Vermont

We have 5 days in July and just decided we would like to take in Vermont. Vermont will be our 49th state to visit. Considering one day to drive there, one day to drive home, where do you recommend to stay? What we want is a place on a lake. An efficiency would be perfect if possible for 3 days with a place to buy fresh fish we could cook with a balcony or patio overlooking the water. Possible?

Topping for you. I recently received excellent feedback about a proposed Adirondacks/Vermont trip so perhaps some of those folks will see this and respond.

Hopefully you'll have no trouble making reservations.

The Wawbeek is closed permanently. Sadly it is now a private property.

I haven't responded to this thread because I'm finding it increasingly difficult to recommend places in the Adirondacks as so many have closed recently, and I know nothing pertinent about Vermont.

Thanks Dukey, Maps and Wliwl. I did call the Wildwood and they do not have availability the days we need but she was helpful in giving me info. Very nice and helpful lady.

I used to live in Vermont, I think of it more for mountains and rivers and such. It has to be a lake?

Does not have to be a lake. We love the water and fresh fish so that's what comes to mind. Rivers and mountains are great also.

I say, since it is a big occasion (49th state visit and all), make it that much more special. Head to *the* Adirondack resort - (my opinion of course) The Point Resort.
