"Laid Back" City After Disneyland

Need some help looking for a quite area after 5 days at Disneyland. Near a beach would be nice, but looking for a place to sit by the pool, maybe shop a little & go out to eat without fighting a lot of traffic. Traveling in the middle of June, and would like to keep it within a couple hours of LAX. Thank You.

In Newport Beach there is a beautiful little area called Balboa Island. You can either park just over the tiny two lane bridge and walk over or you can drive but sometimes parking is hard to find because there are not many places to park. However, you can sit on the beach right there, you can eat at little quaint restuarants (many only have a handful of tables in them) and shop at the stores. I love this place, I love to get an ice-cream and walk up and down the sidewalks. Just beautiful!

Consider Redondo Beach. The Holiday Inn is a great hotel, across from the beach, with an excellent pool. Walking distance wonderful restaurants, downton Redondo is very laid back and cool.

All good suggestions so far. Newport, Redondo, also consider Laguna in there. Santa Barbara is also great, but in bad traffic you would be over 2 hours from LAX.

Laguna would actually be my 1st choice.

Newport Beach has quite a few hotels - I do not know what your budget is - but there are some right on the ocean and there are some at Fashion Island. The Island Hotel at Fashion Island was a Four Seasons until just recently and was perfect for walking to shopping and dining. It was also very close to the beach and had a beautiful pool.
