Does anyone have a few recommendations for restaurants here, dinner and breakfast, esp ones with live music? DH and I are looking for good Cajun food, not necessarily fancy. Trip Advisor recommendations seem to lean heavily on chains like IHOP!!! Also, any suggestions on things to see or hear would be great. We will be there for 3 nts/2 days mid May and will be driving from New Orleans.

If you want to drive south of Lafayette a little bit to the town of Breaux Bridge, check out Cafe des Amis. This is a cool place with great food, neat atmosphere, and really nice people. We were there last June and I am still dreaming about the bread pudding with white chocolate sauce

The restaurant is a little on the upscale side, but not particularly fancy. And the prices were great. We throught they had left something off when we got the bill because based on the food and service, we thought the bill was going to be higher.

Don's has always been good.

Don's??? Extremely mediocre. Please... Cafe des Amis has zydeco music with their brunch. Boiling Point has good boiled seafood...no music. Randall's has ok food and lots of music and you really should check out the scene there.

Truth be told, the really good Cajun cooking happens in the home. No offense to anyone from Lafayette, but there are not a lot of good restaurants in a place that has a lot of good cooking. Sorry Irishswampyankee. The best you can do is get invited to someone's house for dinner.

Go to Randal's for the dancing/music but eat somewhere else. Or just get an appetizer.

Blue Dog Cafe is pretty good. I don't know if you're familiar with the artist.

Ruby's is good for cheap homestyle Cajun cooking. I believe they are only open for lunch.

I suggest a half day trip to St. Martinville. La Petit Paris Cafe is near the Evangeline Oak. They sometimes have live music and the prices are low. Similar to Ruby's...homestyle cooking.
