LA Westin: Overpriced and short on service
I was excited to stay at this hotel because I love Westin hotels and this was supposed to be a nice place. You can imagine my disappointment when my stay at the Westin Century Plaza Hotel & Spa was nowhere near satisfactory!
In fact, my experience with this hotel was so miserable that I could not wait to check out and go home!!
Here is a list of just some of the things that went wrong:
-In-room internet connection did not work
-In-room TV internet did not work
-A stranger's bag was left on my bed by a bell hop the first night of my stay
-Spa overcharged me for one service and refuses to refund me for a service I did not receive
This does not include all of the things that went wrong . . . I will save you from the misery of reading every single detail of my awful experience at The Westin.
I am a platinum Starwood member and I will NEVER EVER stay at a Westin Hotel after my experience at The Westin Century Plaza Hotel & Spa in LA.

I have found that sometimes, even in "the best" hotels, desk clerks are working for slightly more than minimum wage and have never, themselves, been a paying patron at a hotel and they are given no authority to compensate guests who have problems.
However, I also find that when shortcomings are calmly explained to the manager, an apology and compensation is usually forthcoming. Please consider giving Westin management the opportunity to retain your loyal patronage.

Why does this sound like a fly-by hatchet job on this property? This poster's first and only post is to slam this hotel-- a high-end hotel with a heavily business-oriented clientèle (I would NEVER stay in Century City as a tourist). Something smells fishy here.

I stayed at the Westin Century Plaza for a business conference and agree with the original poster. I like Westin's, but this property is not up to Westin's (or Starwood's) usual high standards. I too had numerous problems, not great service and the rooms are not all that great--usual Westin comfortable heavenly bed though!

I agree with RJW. The biggest complaints I've had with the Century Plaza have been overbooking and poor counter service. What I would have expected to her from JRO99 was about the horrendous construction taking place right outside the front door. Since he or she makes zero complaints about that and is only complaining about the internet not working, I have to question why a person who has NEVER posted would suddenly do this one post. Also, why didn't this person ask for another room? The hotel can't possibly be booked solid with all the construction going on outside.

I know he says there were more things wrong, but presumably the internet not working and a stranger's bag left on his bed seem to top the list since those are the things he mentions. Sorry, I don't find those earthshattering problems -- particularly a bag accidentally left in my room. Why would that make you "miserable"? And I agree that if the internet connection didn't work, why not ask for another room? If these are the things that made him so miserable he couldn't wait to go home, I'd hate to see what would happen if he got a room with AC that didn't work, or one with a shower that ran out of hot water, or finding a piece of trash under the bed, or any of the other hundreds of things that happen even in first class hotels every day.
I'm not saying there weren't problems, but I've had far worse happen an many hotels. If I eliminated every chain where I've had such problems, I'm not sure there'd be any place left to stay.
When you talked with the manager about the spa overcharging you and charging you for something you didn't get, what was the answer?

just wanted to put in a word for Westin. Years ago, for an anniversary night, we stayed at the Westin South Coast Plaza an hour south in Costa Mesa. A bunch of noisy kids kept us up til 3am. I went home, wrote Westin, and they promptly replied offering us a free night at the hotel in the future.
Perhaps if you contact the Westin with your complaints, they will help remedy the situation...?
