La Mariana Sailing Club - Honolulu

Missed going there last time around, but would really like to check it out this trip. Anyone been lately? Reviews greatly appreciated.

Funky little place, loaded with "tiki lounge" stuff -- including a waterfall (if it's not running when you're there, ask the waitress to turn it on for you).

Lunch is good, and will allow you to enjoy the yacht club views. When we went there a few months ago, we even saw baby barracuda swimming near the docks. Yikes!

Have never been there for dinner, but the lighting must be something to behold -- light bulbs in hanging glass floats, etc.

For fans of exotica -- Martin Denny, Arthur Lyman, birdcalls, etc. -- this is worth seeing. Nimitz Highway to Sand Island Access Road, then watch for a nearly-bleached-out painted wooden sign on your right -- turn down that street and the Yacht Club will be just before the bend. Parking can be tight at lunch time...

Love reading your local color, auntiemaria. Thanks! I especially want to go when there is a sing-along. Does this happen on a regular night?

It used to be on Fridays and Saturdays, but I vaguely recall reading that there was some pilikia (trouble) because the place didn't have a "live entertainment" permit -- and thus lost their long-time piano player.

You might want to call and find out what the current situation is...but go see it, regardless. It's a classic!

Speaking as a pianist, that would really be a shame for the clients and the piano player! Thanks for your reply "auntie". I looked up your reference to Martin Denny and Arthur Lyman and was inspired to order the CD's on Amazon. We'll take them along on our trip.
