La Jolla or San Diego hotels under 200 a night?

My brother is moving to La Jolla and we'd like to visit him for Thanksgiving. Ideally we'd like to stay at a hotel near/on the beach in La Jolla but will look into other areas.

Any tips?

I found many less than a year ago on Travelocity.com We stayed at the Empress for $95. There were a few others around the corner closer to the water that I would pick next time.

Well, if you strike out finding an affordable hotel near/on the beach, check into Priceline.com . First go to Biddingfortravel.com and see what hotels people are getting in San Diego. You can bid for a hotel in La Jolla but it might not be near/on the beach (I'd guess not). The upside is you can save a lot of money and still get a very nice place.

crazieladybug,

if you will take Del Mar into consideration, which is not too far from La Jolla, there is the Del Mar Hilton North San Diego. It is a motor-lodge like structure and only about three minutes by car from the beach.

It will likely sell for under $ 200. Even closer to the beach, there is the Stratford Inn, also in Del Mar. It, too, should not exceed the $ 200 price range.

have fun in beautiful La Jolla

In july 2000, we stayed at the Best Western Inn By The Sea in La Jolla for just under $100, incl. bfst. Its a VERY short walk (1-2 blocks) from the ocean and just around the corner from shopping, the Hard Rock Cafe and other restaurants. Ask for an upper floor; we had an ocean view from our balcony!

the inn by the sea is going to be your best value in la jolla. prices will be pretty high for the thanksgiving weekend. i always that the stratford in del mar looked nice from the outside. be aware that if you bid for a hotel in the la jolla area, you may not be close to the beach or village. for example, the embassy suites and the hyatt are on the east side of freeway 5 in a residential/shopping area. if not bidding, i'd make reservations at a couple of places and then have your brother check them out.
