La Jolla
any advice about 2-3 weeks vacationing in the La Jolla area? Have researched (but not visited) and seems like a place we'd like (we live in Palo Alto and love Santa Barbara). Want somewehere quietish, sandy beaches, good walks, walkable to coffee/store, bike paths....Four adults and four kids, 15,15,10,9. Have looked at many vacation rentals and like two I saw in Bird Rock. Am a bit confused as I am not sure if Bird Rock really is La Jolla! Seems much cheaper! Any advice on areas (we'll be renting a house and have to watch the cost) would be fantastic. Also ideas on things to do. We're outdoors and eating types rather than bars and clubs though my husband kills for a good martini!
Thanks all!
Thanks all!

I live in LJ and I think for you and your family to rent a home would be in the LJ Shores area..
The beach is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, boogie boarding and surfing by the Scripp's pier for the kids and for you adults..great martini's and cheap happy hour at the Sea Lodge on the beach.
Has a quaint restaurants like Piatti's and the Cheese Shop for the best deli sandwiches, Alberto's Taco Shop and Jeff's Burgers..
I wouldn't rent in the Bird Rock area..south of LJ but still LJ..
Any home to rent in LJ is going to be some bucks..
La Jolla Beach and Tennis has some rentals..this gives you an idea the area..
What is your budget and when are you planning to visit?

Thanks TahitiTams, that's really helpful. Our budget is around $3500/week and we are planning to visit late July/early August (my sister is visiting from England 7/25 until 8/13 so it will be within those dates).
Is UCSD in this area too? (Husband interested in a job coming up there!)

Hi phi..
UCSD is up the hill..great University.
July/August is the busiest and most expensive..
LJ Shores is a great area to swim and eat..
Book now..
Contact Willis Allen Real in LJ .ask for rentals for the summer in the Shores...
$3500 a week should get you a nice home and close to the ocean.
Lots of fun things to do in SD..
Padres will be in town.
Happy to help.
