Amanda: As Ann says, you COULD drive through Death Valley. But is it a good idea - no. The desert heat should not be trifled with, especially if you are not familiar with the valley. Las Vegas is bearable - barely - because you are inside or in the pool all day. You will not have that luxury in Death Valley.

Death Valley is an extrordinary experience - but DO NOT try it in August. Your rental car will probably be in good order - but 120F - 125F in the shade can do in any vehicle.
