Has anyone ever been? ITs at the Dallas Museum of Art and we are considering a road trip for a long weekend. Your thoughts on the exhibit?

Saw it in Chicago a couple years ago and was extremely disappointed. It's not worth the high ticket price...and I was lucky in that I got free tickets!

When we were considering a trip to Philadelphia, the exhibit was there and I read reviews. Pretty much every reviewer said they were disappointed. The Dallas Morning News hasn't published anything that I'd call a true review...just pieces designed to get people to attend.

My daughter will be there in a couple of hours on a school field trip. I don't know if she will be able to properly evaluate if it is "worth it" since she didn't pay with her own money. But I'll let you know if she has any strong opinions.

We saw it in Philadelphia and did not feel like it was worth the money. There were not a whole lot of artifacts. For one of the very few times in my life, I agreed with the review!

Thanks everyone. I talked to DH. He thinks he'd rather go to the fair now anyway.... I haven't been to a fair in YEARS. Looking forward to cotton candy...

If you like bacon do not miss the chicken-fried bacon and the fried grilled cheese was like a grilled cheese amped up. we also enjoyed the sand sculpture and of course the cars!

The original exhibit was better...the one coming to SF next year will not have the golden facial mask, as it's too expensive to insure it these days. Other prime artifacts seem also to be staying at home. But if you've never seen any part of the exhibit, it would be worth the experience.

We timed our visit to Philly last year to catch the last week of the exhibit. Most of those disappointed compared it to the one that was in US previously (in the '80s, maybe) or the museum in Cairo. We had been to neither and found King Tut and the Age of Pharoahs definitely worth the money.

My husband is going to see it again in Dallas, taking our son and grandson.

I saw the exhibit when it was in LA.

It would be good for somebody who had never seen an exhibit of Egyptian artifacts (such as at the Met in NYC), but it was in no way representative of the fabulous contents of the tomb of King Tut.

That said, many people enjoy it. Perhaps your road trip will be more rewarding if you combine King Tut with some other Dallas attraction of interest to you.

I did not see the exihibit when it first came around (I don't even think I was born) but I was still very disappointed. I don't even think it took an hour to get through and I read everything- my husband will vouch for that!

I went to the King Tut exhibit in Dallas 2 days ago and enjoyed it. I have seen the exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum in New York many years ago (barely remember it). I also saw the Amenhotep III exhibit at the Kimball Art Museum in Fort Worth in 1993 (loved it the most). I had read some reviews about the King Tut Exhibit prior to going, so I was prepared that it may be a little disappointing. I think that helped my expectations, and I ended up enjoying it. But I really like that sort of thing anyway.

Tip to anyone going: Do not pay the $7 for the audio tour. There is nothing on the audio tour that you can not read on each artifact yourself. That part is entirely unnecessary.

My 15 year old enjoyed the exhibit a lot yesterday. Of course, she didn't have to pay for it and it was a day out of school, so you can take the recommendation with a grain of salt!
