Kids away - parents out to play

OK, it's early July. Our kids are off to camp and we have time for some adult play. We live in Connecticut and are looking for ideas for long weekends, preferably within two-hour flight range. In prior years, we did Ogunquit, Block Island and the Berkshires, but we're looking for something different. We're considering Quebec City and Nantucket. What great weekend getaway spots have you found that would fit the bill?

Quebec City and Nantucket are both great choices - also Martha's Vineyard - if you don't want to fly to the island, depending on where you are in CT, there is a ferry from Quonset, RI - www.vineyardfastferryc.om

Newport, Rhode Island or Portland, Maine might be other possibilities.

What do you mean when you say "looking for something different?" I love Nantucket, but in a way it's a combination of the 3 places you mention you've already been. Do you mean maybe you want a city trip? I think Quebec sounds like a fun idea.

Portland Maine is great for a weekend. Minor league ball, harbor tours, shops, restaurants etc.

I think I would do Montreal before I did Quebec City - great restaurants, a little closer.

I loved Quebec City; very old world European feel.

1. Martha's Vineyard (a few days)
ferry over to Nantucket (1-2 days)

more time? Ferry also to Montauk, NY (not sure when the ferry runs there or if still does, but why not!)

2. NYC and the Hamptons
Fly into Newark (take train to midtown) or cabbi in (spend a few days and nights), train it out to East Hampton

3.

I haven't been to Quebec City yet, but have been to Montreal 3 times. Montreal has a lot to see and do and has a lot of charm. It is a very long drive from CT, but an easy flight.
