Kid friendly restaurant near museum?
Hello,
I'm looking for suggestions on any kid/family friendly restaurants near the Museum of Natural History. I'm going this Sunday with some family and my 2 and 5 year old boys. I'm originally from Queens, but I've moved away, and it's been a while since I've been in that part of the city.
Thank you!

lots of places, as the upper west side is packed with kids who are taken every where. Most kid friendly places are pretty casual and inexpensive. Right across from the Museum is Pizzeria Uno (yes, the chain), but if you walk over to Amsterdam avenue (one block) you also have Chinese, Vietnamese and Indian and BBQ restaurants, EJ's which is a better than average diner, Sarabeths's which is more upscale (and more 'family' than kid).
Carmines is probably not so great with kids that age as you cannot make reservations and there's usually a wait. Some people like it for big groups, inlcuding those with older kids
because it's a big raucous family-style (meaning shared portions) place, but it's not inexpensive.
Anything special you're looking for? Price range, menu choices? Brunch or dinner?

Thanks for your suggestions...
Janie, to answer your questions... I'm looking for an inexpensive/casual place...($15 an entree or less) would love Spanish, Mexican, Italian or Caribbean food...early dinner around 5:30pm.
Doing research online, I found a place called Cafe con Leche on 424 Amsterdam and a place called Gabriela's at 311 Amsterdam.... if you know about these places, or any others, I'd love to know your opinion.
Thanks again!

Cafe Con Leche has great casual cuban and dominican food (ropa vieja, etc) and is on that same strip of amsterdam avenue as all th eother places I mentioned (around 80-81st.) I really like the food, and it's inexpensive (well within/ below your price range). It's a pretty small place though. It's very busy at Bruch (till about 3 pm) but it should empty out after that.
They have another branch, bigger and a little "fancier" (but not much) at 95th street.
I've never tried the Gabriela's you mentioned but it's connected to the one further uptown at 93rd street. A very popular place (i'm not much of a mexican food fan, so it's hard for me to recommend)
Also on Amsterdam (83rd? 84th) is Sabor, a more stylish mixed-latino(cuban, argentinian, spanish, etc) place. Also very very good. Dinner entrees should be about 10-15.
Hope this helps. Truthfully, on a Sunday at 5:30. most of the places in the neighborhood are pretty quiet . Though you can and may want to make a reservation if your group is large or on a really tight schedule, you can also just stroll the blocks between 79th and 85th on Amsterdam avenue (which is more of a restaurant row that Columbus , which was big 10 years ago) and find something you like. You can literally chose from about 25-30 restaurants in that 6 block stretch!
