Gardens Hotel or Marquesa Hotel... both are luxury small inns in Old Town... if you want total isolation with full romance then its Little Palm Island just outside of KW ...However you will not be a part of the KW experience at all... its an island resort for no more than 20 guests...

The Heron House also comes to mind. The places on Simonton are great as they are a block off of Duval. Still close but away from teh noise.

A non-touristy place for tourists to stay? In Key West? Hmmm...

I stay at Pier House, 1 Duval Street.

love the question. a non touristy hotel in the most touristy city in the US? maybe some hotel where all the locals stay? get over it. go and enjoy being a tourist or you won't enjoy the place.

I would agree with the Heron House. Although very conveniently located (just a couple of blocks walk to Duval), it seems like an entirely different world once you get inside their fence. The Marquesa across the street from it looked very nice also. I have never stayed there but have read great things about it.

The Gardens Hotel - hands down. See the reviews/pics on tripadvisor - we went there last Oct for our anniversary and LOVED it! Exactly what you are looking for...

, As stated earlier, there are no non-touristy hideaways in Key West. However, that being said, I would recommend a wonderful B&B - the Cypress HOuse on Caroline Street in the old city. www.cypresshousekw.com. They have a lovely pool, a large main house, and a small adjacent bungalow (2 floors) next door that is absolutely darling. With a small kitchen (for intimate breakfasts if you want) and lovely furnishings, and an old fashioned porch to sit and have a drink and people watch. It is very private. If you want to mingle, they serve a huge breakfast from the kitchen and you can sit at tables by a beautiful pool. Their Happy Hour is a blast - liquor and food galore. My guy and I ate & drank so much there that we never made it to a restaurant. All these extras are all FREE.
