http://www.oceankey.com/ location is good here but The Reach is also nice though it is down by the southernmost point.
We stay on base so can't tell you anything but location info.

When we stay at Truman annex our entrance has been moved due to construction to United St which has a ton crazy people that flock to the "southernmost point" which really isn't but can be a pain. The beaches are nice in this area for KW. There are some good places to eat on that end of town. We eat breakfast at Banana Cafe often.

The Ocean key is on the end of Duval so you are close to the bight and Mallory Sq. Great sunset views.

http://www.themarkerkeywest.com/?NCK=gl-marker This is newish and might not be bad though it really isn't on the water.

If you want to rent check out Truman annex rentals. That is where the Harry Truman little White house is located and a nice area, bit quieter at night.

Sorry, that was a bit hard to read. Doing three things at once.

Sunset Key is very nice but who wants to take a boat back and forth to get into old town?

The true charm of Key West is in the smaller but swanky Inns .

Have a look at The Gardens Hotel or the Marquesa House...

The chains cannot compare in ambiance and service...

Bedar, you need to realize that location can make a world of difference, especially in Old Town. There are "luxury" properties which because of where they are provide plenty of noise and other distractions so make a wise choice.

The biggest is not always the best, believe me.

Another vote for The Gardens, at corner of Angela and Simonton Streets--beautiful place, lush tropical gardens (with tortoises, yet), good pool, extensive wine bar and regular bar as well; Sunday afternoon jazz. Check out new lux hotel, H20; each room has its own dipping pool. The Southernmost Hotel complex has its own beach. The Marker Waterfront is another new lux place, at the Mallory Square/Gulf of Mexico end (Southernmost is at the Atlantic side). All of these are in Old Town, easy walking distance to most things. Drop the car, get a bike or walk!

I stayed here, years ago but it still has good reviews. We stayed at the smaller James House across the street.

We've stayed at the Ocean Key Resort and loved it - great ocean views and the pier where you can eat is right there, also have a great rooftop restaurant. If you want something smaller and charming, the Marquesa is wonderful.
