Key West Hotels
I'm trying to decide where to stay for four nights in Key West in January, celebrating hubby's birthday with some of his oldest friends in the world. There are a total of 5 of us, so I've been thinking along the lines of a cottage or condo where we can all stay together rather than individual rooms. So far I'm concentrating on a 2/2 cottage at the Paradise Inn ($400/nt) or a 2/2 condo at the Galleon ($550/nt). We've stayed at the Galleon before and liked it well enough - the view is great and the condos are pretty large. Never stayed at the Paradise. My question - do I spend the extra $$ for a place I know that has great waterviews, or go with the Paradise and save the extra $$ for dive trips? Anyone have any experience with the Paradise?
PS - if it helps, hubby and I have been to KW many times but never stayed in a guesthouse, and the people coming with us have never been to KW.

My husband and I spend at least 4 weeks a year at the Galleon, so I'm really partial to it. Having said that, have you seen the two bedroom units? The second bedroom is TINY! I've seen one that had a double bed in it, but the others (overlooking the marina) have all had twin beds and no room for much more than a little night stand with a couple of drawers. I'm just not envisioning 2 grown men in those little beds! (Or a third on the couch, for that matter!)
I don't hear much about Paradise Inn anymore, but the primary thing I remember about it is that the walls are apparently very thin, so privacy can be an issue.
Have you considered Truman Annex? Or going through a realtor for something else? I've never used At Home in Key West, but I know others who've used it and been very pleased - they have lots of different accommodation options - and you might take a look at their website.
Still another option is the Banyan Resort. We took a look at a few of their units a couple of years ago and weren't very impressed, but for a bunch of guys (and you, lol) it might be a good option. Great location!

If you ever decide to try a B&B I highly recommend Key West B&B aka the Poplar House www.keywestbandb.com
I have stayed there for years....its the only place I stay in fact.
Took a group of 6 last year that had never done a B&B or KW and they loved both. They both have told me they enjoyed the B&B experiece so much they will now try others when they travel.
That made me feel good!

I second the notion of checking with a realtor. About 10 years another couple and us wanted to go for fantasy fest, a realtor got us a three bedroom mobile home which was within walking distance of town. Playboy magazine had a unit 3 spaces down. Better than a motel room and as reasonable. No I didn't see any Playmates.
