Key west electric wheelchair rental

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to rent an electric chair for someone who has mobility difficulty and not able to walk for long distance.

Maybe the folks at Starke will let you borrow their electric chair.

In the U.S., an electric chair is used to execute death-row prisoners.

Sorry, I don't know what you would call them in the States, I am looking for an electric wheelchair/ scooter used by disabled.

This is to allow my mother to see the sights of Key West without having to walk for long distances, she is not able to walk for long but likes to participate and see the sights.

If any one has any suggestions I would appreciate details of a web page or a contact address/tel number.

Thank you

I suggest you do a search for medical supply stores in the states. They would be your best bet. Key West also has a website at www.keywest.com which, I think, has a chat room, where you might ask about an electric scooter rental.

Electric wheelchairs are not all that easy for a person unfamiliar with one to use. The joystick control on most can send you in directions you do not want unless you are experienced. Also, most electric wheelchairs are specially fitted for individuals. Perhaps they are available for rent, but an older city like Key West probably does not have the best curb-cuts and other accessibility modifications.

A better choice would be an electric scooter type thing. These are much easier to handle and less unique to individual.

If she is traveling with someone able to push a wheelchair, I would pick a manual wheelchair. They are more portable, and since it seems she is able to stand and take a few steps anyway, it would give her many more choices in where she goes.
