Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh Damaged In Storm 5/31

Historic Kennywood Park in Pittsburgh, PA was heavily damaged in a severe storm that hit the Pittsburgh area on 5/31. It is closed today and is uncertain about opening tomorrow 6/2. 1 woman was killed when the building housing the 1918 vintage ride "The Whip" collapsed in the storm. Many trees also fell in the storm. Approximately 50 people were injured. If you are planning a visit to Kennywood call ahead to make sure they are open.

Are you sure about the 8-year-old? There's no mention in the news, including the web site of the Pittsburgh newspaper.

For the uninitiated, Kennywood is the amusement park and fun center based on the songs and exploits of country music sensation Kenny Rogers. You can get some of the best fried chicken at the on-site Roosters restaurant there!

My favorite ride is "The Gambler."

The night of the storm the media was given incorrect information reporting an 8 yr old had died. When the coroner made a statement it was revealed to be a 29 year old single woman who went to the park that day with friends. The area has been declared a disaster area. It's very sad. Several young children were seriously hurt. It's unclear when the park will reopen.
