In October, I went to a Sunday brunch at the Roof Terrace restaurant. The food was very good. They recently renovated the interior, and it is very chic. I would ask for a table near the river, and not overlooking the constuction site (if it is still there).

I've always enjoyed having dinner when going to a play at the Kennedy Ctr. I've not been disappointed and the views from the roof patio are simply great. You can see Georgetown, Arlington, parts of Arlington Cemetery, boats on the river, Georgetown, GW's and AU's crew teams out there. I'd highly recommend having dinner before your show.

Just a note: you can walk all around the roof of the KC without dining at the Roof Terrace--in fact, without even having a ticket to anything, as admission to the building in general is free and unrestricted. And I'd recommend a stroll around, it really is an awesome view, especially at night. Personally, I like eating at the Roof Terrace before a show because I hate the stress of trying to time a meal elsewhere, and worrying about traffic, parking, etc. It used to be in dire need of a facelift, so I'm glad to hear it's fresh and chic now. Enjoy!

I haven't eaten there but would also recommend eating at the Roof Terrace from what I've heard. All evening KC performances seem to start at 7:30-8, so it really isn't that feasible to go to dinner before elsewhere in the city (unless you eat very early or quickly, which I don't) and kind of makes it quite a long and arduous evening, since you'd probably have to allow at least a half hour to get there. There aren't a lot of great restaurants around there, either, within walking distance. I think Chez Marcel's might be one of the best choices away from it, but I'd stick with dining there.

The last time I went to dinner there it was good and the atmosphere nice but it was not inexpensive. The KenCen does sit away from most restaurants in Foggy Bottom. It is convenient to go to the RT for dinner and avoid the rush from retaurant elsewhere to parking garage. If you park early, park near the exit - so you're in the first group out after the show! A perk!

It is a very good place to eat - good menu and so convenient before the show. the views are great. When we have gone to the matinee at the Kennedy we have eaten at the other fast food place at the Kennedy (I beleive it is on the same floor) and that was not bad either. If you eat at the Roof Top Terrace you need to be sure and have reservations - we were very please the times we have eaten dinner there.

The cafeteria type restaurant at the Kennedy Center is run by Restaurant Associates which runs restaurants in many places like Rock Center in NYC and also many cafeterias like mine at work. The food was a good value for the money and very convienient. FOr New Years eve it was a bargain.

I dunno. I used to like the KC's "Hors d'oeuverie", but it's now gone, and I agree with previous poster that cafeteria has good value and lots of choices, decent food. But the restaurant? We were unimpressed. It feels like a cavern in there -- no warmth. Service was good. Food ok. I probably wouldn't do it again.
If price is no object for original poster, I'd go for Marcel's, where you can do a pre-theater dinner, be chauffeured to KC and come back after show for dessert! Food is excellent, much more lively and interesting atmosphere. Just my 2 cents.
