Kauai without kids!
My husband and I--both teachers in our 40s--are exploring the possiblity of spending a week on Kauai this December. I've never been there, and many of the lodging suggestions I read are for families. We are looking for a place that is NOT kid friendly. Our ideal place is a smaller property, plantation style, on a quiet beach. Water sports are not necessary, neither are on-site restaurants (we like to explore and search around for local restaurants). Has anyone stayed at the Aston Islander on the east shore?

Our first two trips to kauai were without kids. We stayed at the Princeville Hotel the first time and the Marriott the second. While both are large with spectacular views, I didn't feel in either case like I was in the midst of family central. Our last trip(s) were with kids - and we stayed at Princeville. Hawaii tends to be a family kind of destination so if you're really adamant about not being kid friendly, it could be tough. You might want to consider Halekulani on Oahu as that appears to be a bit more adult or try Kona Village on the big island.

We went to Kauai without kids for some quiet time and we chose Whalers Cove because it was a small condo with all the amenities we wanted. It is oceanfront with a very nice pool. Here's a few links to give you different views:
We rented through: http://www.suite-paradise.com/whaler...lers-cove.html
Another rental co:

This is a real estate web site but it's good for the pictures:

Check out www.coastlinecottages.com
I haven't stayed there, but stayed nearby and walked by them. They look fabulous! Plantation style cottages, ocean front.
