Kauai suggestions please
We are planning a trip to Kauai in Oct. and need help on places to eat, things to do for 3 adults & 3 teens. Since this will be the first trip for two of the people, (and 4 or 5 years since our last trip), we will certainly do the Waimea canyon drive, Kilauea lighthouse, and Hamura's. We are renting a house in Princeville and will cook most of our meals, but appreciate any recommended new dining options.

There are about 10 sites on this thread good for all islands. Also a couple sites for Kauai:

If you are the hiking adventurous type, try the Awa'awapuhi Trail in Kokee State Park. You will walk through some very amazing surroundings. The payoff will be an awesome view of the Na'Pali coast below. Even though when we went it was foggy and we did not see that view the hike was one of the favorite activities we did in Kauai. Thanks. Last time we went to Waimea canyon, we didn't go any further, and someone told us that we should have continued on to Koke'e for the beautiful scenery. So this time we will continue on to Koke'e. How difficult would you rate the hike? Can you see much without doing the hike? My husband is healthy but has a hernia (plans for surgery after the trip). The kids are ages 13, 14 & 15.

Definitely go to the end of the road where you can park the car. The views are great from up there. The kids can do the hike though I would not recommend the entire hike for your husband. We were quite tired after the trek. There are no difficult parts technically but it is long and hot so that makes it more challenging.

Well if people are able bodied, the hike into the Na Pali Coast is unbeatable. Definitely take the teens out to the Kipu Falls Rope swing, they'll definitely have a blast!!

Fully agree with doing as much of Waimea Canyon as you can and the Napali Coast. Polihale Beach if you can get there the road is usually pretty rough.
We liked the little pizza place in Waimea town right next to the steakhouse.
