Kauai Radisson

I will be taking my first trip to Hawaii in September of 02. I am staying at the Radison. I have found very limited information about this hotel. I bought the "Hawaii for Dummies" book, and Radisson is not mentioned in there. I read that it is not actually owned by Radisson. Does anyone know who owns it?

If anyone has stayed there, I would love to hear what you thought . Be gentle though, the trip is already paid for!
Thanks!

to Tonya:
I stayed at the Kauai Radisson in mid April and liked it very much. It is very convenient to the airport for a short stay. Some folks complained of plane noise overhead, but we didn't notice it. There is a happy hour every pm (5-6?) a good way to meet fellow guests or to just relax around the pool. There is a local show around the pool each evening with native dancing and torch lighting ceremony. Once is probably enough to see that, but a nice addition nonetheless. Pretty pool, but no beach to speak of - beach is ok for walking, but I didn't see any swimmers. Perhaps recent storm damage.
All in all, a clean, convenient hotel. Driving on Kauai is a must - so much beauty. Wonderfully friendly people also. Don't miss the lighthouse and park on the north coast, Hanelai Bay and any flea markets you come upon.

Tonya,
I stayed at the Radisson on Kauai last March and was very pleased with the overall stay. The hotel lobby is beautiful and the entire hotel has recently gone under a renovation(they had just finished when we arrived.) The hotel staff was very friendly and the pool was pleasant(boasts a small grotto.) The hotel is not among the top properties I have ever stayed in but there is nothing about this hotel that is offensive about it. The property is oceanfront but does not offer a beach. Barbara is right about the entertainment and happy hour-a very festive way to start off your evening. Our rooms were attractive and very clean! I would compare this hotel to a very pretty Embassy Suites! I am confident you will have a wonderful time and will not regret your decision. ENJOY!

Thanks, I am really excited.
If there is not really a beach to swim at on the property, is it a long way to go to one?

Hi, Tonya

Our first choice was a condo, the Kauai Coast Resort, but have ended up with the Kauai Radisson for our honeymoon next month.

I recently received a brochure and it seems to be a beautiful hotel property.
You could check-out their website,
www.radissonkauai.com

I'm looking forward to staying there!
Hope you enjoy your trip!

Tonya,
Since everyone seemed to be asking about this hotel, we swung by last Dec/this Jan to check it out.

Agree with the above posters. Nice remodel job. Turns out it used to be maybe a Hilton and it's where we had T'giving/10th anniv dinner on our first trip over in '89.

If you walk out to the ocean and down a few yards, there is a nice swimmable beach.

If it's not to you liking, Lydgate is less than a 5 min car ride away.
Poipu is only about 30 mins away as is P'ville.

We just confirmed our room reservations for our 11th return to Kauai. We usually stay on the East/Coco/Coast too.
195 mo' days to go.

Good luck and mucho mahalos,
Kal

thanks!
so, there is swimmable beach on the property, just down farther?
Is the beach in front good for laying out and reading? or just too small in general?

Tonya, A "small" beach?
The beach right there is a rather long one. You can almost walk from the airport up to the Wailua River!

In fact, when we want to take a long morning walk along the ocean, we drive the few minutes to Lydgate State Park (we stay over the Wailua River at a little hotel called The Islander), and then walk from Lydgate all the way down to the Radisson and back. Takes about 2 hrs but a very good way to start your morning, especially after a big platter of Royal Hawaiian pancakes at Eggbert's.
I believe you actually walk over 3 beaches, Lydgate, Nukoli, and Hanamaulu.

We pass locals fishing, spear fishing and families swimming, surfing, snorkeling and picnicing along the way. You can see the planes coming and going from the a'port, too. You pass right by the backside of the Wailua Public Golf Course. Nice course.
The only prob is that there are a few areas along the way where there is lava cap, some rocks and coral.
If you just want to lay out on the beach, shouldn't be a prob right there.
Closer to the bar!
Mahalo,
kal

Just got back from a honeymoon in Kauai and wanted to add some notes on the Radisson. We stayed there w/ENT discount to save some money and were not disappoined.
The rooms were average - yes - but they were all we needed. And the view from our balcony was like a postcard. We had oceanview and could see the pools and then the ocean beyond. It was perfect - I thought better than the ocean front rooms.
My husband was thrilled over our choice when we visited the Hyatt and Princeville and I told him what those were per night. And we both loved the 4 pools at Radisson which were fairly empty most of the time - YEAH!
The location was perfect b/c you could get to the North or South within 45 minutes. And the North had GORGEOUS beaches.
Feel free to ask any questions about the hotel - we would definitely stay there again.

Tonya,

My wife, daughter, and I just returned from Kauai. We stayed at the Radisson for three nights and found it to be very pleasant: the pools are great, the beach is walkable (but the ocean might not be swimmable) and pretty, with plenty of sunbathing room. The staff was very helpful, the rooms clean. Our baby daughter loved the lagoons, which have black swans, geese, and hawaiin ducks ("nenes"). A few caveats: (1) the hotel restaurant is mediocre and overpriced. Go instead into Lihue or Kapa'a for your meals; (2) when the breeze is quiet, there are mosquitos around the pool--bring repellant; (3) if you are in Building 2, see if you can switch to Building 1. A rooster with a poor sense of timing lives near Building 2 and may wake you up an hour or so BEFORE sunrise. The Radisson is in a good location because you can go anywhere on the island without too much of a drive. We found the book "The Ultimate Guide to Kaui" very helpful and informative. Have fun.

I have long wondered what the word "Radisson" means. It sounds French. Is it a vegetable ?
