We didn't do the movie tour, but we did the Holoholo sunset cruise out of Port Allen and saw some of the movie sites.
I'm not much of a "tour" person, but this cruise was well worth the money. Make sure you get the 25% off coupon from the entertainment book or somewhere else on the island.
Holoholo has one of the larger cats that tour the area.

We did this tour about 2 years ago and it was one of the best things we did on Kauai. It was loads of fun, and the sights you see are beautiful. It was neat how they show you part of a movie clip and then you drive up, and there's the exact sight of where it was shot. We loved it as did everyone on the tour. I highly recommend it.

Because so many mainlanders had asked us about this tour, we took it last year -- even though we live here and had already been nearly everywhere the tour goes.
The tour company now has a new owner, so I can only comment on our experience -- which was great. The tour guide was affable and had lots of information about island movies (albeit somewhat mis-informed about local culture and history). Only 9 of us in the van, fully air-conditioned, reasonably comfortable, but bumpy on the backroads (not recommended if pregnant or suffering from back/neck problems).
We did the all-day tour because it would take us to places we couldn't otherwise visit -- Coco Palms Hotel grounds tour, Kipu Ranch (beyond the locked gate), etc.
I'd do it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone.
