Kauai - hotel or condo

I think I'm doing something wrong - I posted a message this a.m. but nothing showed up so I"ll try again. If we can get out of our 14-day commitment with a Maui condo, I think we would like to stay there for 9 days, leaving 5 days for Kauai. I think it would be difficult to find a condo there for 5 days as they all seem to be for one week so I'm looking at Hanalei Bay Resort, Radisson Kaui or Kauai Coast Resort. 3 priorities - ocean front, nice location and clean and affordable (we're Canadians so transferring money from Cdn to US adds up). Thank you.

I first would consider whether you are travelling in Hawaii's summer or winter.
Hanalei Bay Resort and neighboring Princeville Hotel, and condominiums are in a more scenic area than Radisson or KCR, however winter can bring rough surf and rainy weather up north. I believe you can find condo's to rent in Princeville resort area for five days, though you might have to pay a little more per night, suggest you search the internet (e.g. www.vrbo.com

Radisson and KCR are in central Kauai so you can efficiently head south (e.g. winter) or north if weather is a factor.

Alot of helpful condo/hotel info. can be found in Kaua`i Revealed guidebook link:www.wizardpub.com

With regard to HBR, we honeymooned in a studio hotel room with a great ocean view, though the view is from a bluff and you must take a path down to the beach. We switched from the studio to a one BR condo, because the studio's kitchenette was lacking (just a microwave and coffee maker). I have heard that rooms may vary there but we had a good experience and recommend you check out virtual tours online before you book.

You are not doing anything wrong, you just need to be patient and wait for responses. If your posts drops off the first page, just respond to it yourself with "ttt" (meaning To The Top) and it will reappear at the top of the list. No need to add an additional post asking the same question.

I answered your question yesterday, so you have now posted it at least three times. Jumpy, indeed.

We rented a condo at Lani Kai Condos through Kauai Vacation Rentals. We only needed the condo for 5 nights, but the weekly rate was the same as renting for 5 nights so we booked it for a week and it worked out well for us. We rented it from Monday to Monday, but checked in on Tuesday and checked out on Sunday. The normal check-in time would have been 3:00 PM on Monday, but since we arrived on Tuesday morning we could check-in when we arrived and had all day Tuesday to use the condo. Check-out time on Monday would have been 10:00 AM, but since we had a late night flight on Sunday we were able to stay at the condo until it was time to go to the airport. We were able to maximize our stay this way. The condo is on the water a few miles north of Lihue, not far from Lydgate Beach State Park.

Check out kauaivacationrentals.com. Most, if not all of their condos are available on a a daily basis. Kiahuna condos are available on a daily basis. Check out Grantham Resorts as well. All of their condo listings are available on daily basis. Some of these have a 4 or 5 night minimum. Do a little more checking and you will find something.

Check out http://www.poipubeachcondo.com/

We are going to Kauai right after Thanksgiving and were able to rent a condo for THREE nights at Po'ipu Shores directly from the owner! Seem like VERY nice people and great suggestions on their website too! I didn't notice when you are going to go but check it out -I'm sure they will help you if they can! Condo is not directly on the beach but my understanding is that it's just a short walk away and since I am not sure how much swimming we'll actually be doing at that time of the year it didn't make too much difference to us. Good luck!

Jumpy,

Saw this post and had to reply...my husband and I stayed at Hanalei Bay Resort as one of the hotels on our honeymoon this past June. We had a TERRIBLE experience---bugs everywhere, dirty linens, dirty room, very loud (many of the rooms are connecting with kichenettes) and very rude personnel. It was very disappointing and our travel agency actually gave us our money back for the four nights we stayed there (the last night we couldn't stand it anymore and went to stay at the Sheraton). Kauai is a beautiful island but this is not the place to stay in our humble opinion. The Sheraton was very nice but not sure how reasonable it would be for five days. Good luck and happy travels!!

We stayed at HBR in 2001 and had a great experience. I suppose it depends on the room. However, I heard they were doing some remodeling last year sometime. we had mountain view studio condo with a kitchenette which imcluded a toaseter, microwave, sink and small fridge whic is all we needed. We only ate breakfast in the room typically. We enjoyed it because of the resort's size(not huge), nice pool and great hot tub. The views are incredible. The beach is shared with Princeville resort.

we stayed in Kauai in June. we considered a resort, but decided on a condo. we were so glad we did! this condo will rent for less than one week at $125 per night. it is ocean front (not beach front).

www.nakearentals.com

www.vrbo.com (mentioned in an earlier post) is also fantastic. I believe we found the above condo on vrbo.
