Honeymoon Help for Condo's in Kauai
Hi, I'm looking for help with picking a condo for a honeymoon this September in Kauai. We have never been there and are looking for a nice place between $800-1200 per week. I'm not sure if we want the north or south shore. Also any places that you would recommend to see or dine at would be great. What should I expect to pay for on avg. for dining out, diving, fishing etc.. Thanks, Justin

Hi Justin for early September I would consider North Shore. Turns out there is only a mild El Nino this year. So far clouds and wind. That can be a great relief from pounding tropical sun. We rented the aloha unit. Might be too big for 2people but it is fairly nice lodging.

Other places to consider are Hanalei North Shore Properities. They have one of the larger selections on the NS that I have seen. I would also look at Pali Ke Kua and the sea lodge properties (complexes). Thing is a stand alone house just gives you so much more privacy than a hotel or condo complex. So search around
If you want beachfront location make sure there are no nearby camping grounds and your unit is not near a public pavillian or gathering spot. Might be good to not be near a public access path if you can help it also. You also want to ask if the beach in front of your unit is a swimming one if that matters. I also like to walk straight out to a beach not treck down some cliff/hill the way you do in Princeville. So I look to book in Hanalei.
If you want bright bright sun Poi Pu. I have not rented here but Whalers cove looks beautiful. Vacation spot.com or general searches on the internet will give you more details on what is available on the south shore.
Kapaa is another option for the budget minded but there are other experts on that area that no more than I.
I suspect that Hanalei may have some openings what with stock market dip and lay offs around the mainland. So you still might be able to score something great!

If you cook at home you can have great meals. The fresh tuna is great and cheaper in price than mainland. I usally get a condo with a grill and deck.
If you want to see what restaurant costs are go to zagat.com and search under Kauai category.
You can also find online menus for zelos (Hanalei), Beachhouse, Roys, (south shore), and others

Justin,
My fiancee and I have been to Kauai the last 2 years and loved it. We stayed in Kapaa at the Wailua Bay Condos, not a four star but for $110/nt with a free night after 6 nights it's not bad. The rooms are clean and have kitchen, lanai, cable t.v. (if you want) and bedroom. They are right on the beach and you can sleep to the roar of the ocean, a room like that at a resort will run you $300/nt easily. You can go on hawaiianair.com and get a glimpse of the place.
A must need book is the ultimate Kauai guidebook. It tells you what to see and how to get there. It is the bible of Kauai and greatly added to the enjoyment of our trip. We practically wore it out.
Kauai is beautiful and very laid back, there is more action towards Poipu, but there is not too much nightlife. Some people need that to have a good time, we just loved to hike and see all the natural beauty.
We love the island and will go back many more times. It really is paradise.
