Kauai activity this Sep, what shoes to wear?

gyppielou, thanks for that advise, my husband and I really looked hard this weekend for those shoes, and yes I think the Keens will really get dirty and not good for short hikes. we just plan to do short hikes since we will be traveling w 3 young kids (8,6, 3 y/o) + our mothers (63 &78). So my mother inlaw surely will be very limited w her tours with us , so she might just be waiting on the beach for us while we are exploring quickly. Anyway, thanks for all your advices.

Not an alarmist here, but it is important when one visits the middle of the pacific ocean to educate themselves and their children about ocean safety. It is our little way of ensuring a trip report!!!
