YES! Seriously, except for Oahu/Waikiki you really need a car on each of the other islands.

Yes! You need a car to get everywhere.

If you have to ask, then no. Stay off the road, there's enough traffic on the island already. JK. You definitely need a car to see all that the island offers.

On our second trip to Kauai we loved driving around the island, a different direction each day, until we had been all the way around. Loved seeing the taro fields and one-way traffic bridges one day; two beautiful waterfalls another. It wouldn't have been the same without a car.

Oh yes...if you don't explore the North Shore, you are missing in my opinion the most dramatic area on the island. As well as the best snorkeling I've ever had on Tunnels.

Definitely rent a car. And, keep checking the different rental agencies because prices can drastically change.

Yes.

www.kayak.com is a reliable site for booking. Kauai car rental seems to be the least expensive of the Hawaiian islands, in my experience.

If you don't rent a car you can't get stuck in traffic in Kapa'a or Lihue...one the great pleasures of a trip to Kauai. It's better in convertible though.
