Kapalua Bay v. Princeville

I know this site is full of posts about these two resorts. I just can't figure out which place is better. We have never been to Hawaii, so I was thinking Maui would be a good place to start. But Princeville seems outstanding, and there are so many negative posts on Kapalua. For anyone who has been to one or both, where would you spend 6 nights? Thanks

Hmmmmmmmmmm.........tough question!!

Recently spent 5 nights at each of the hotels you mention. We loved them both as they both boast the most beautiful properties, scenery and views. We adored the intimate, understated and old-hawaiian atmosphere at Kapalua Bay...the property and the views are absolutely gorgeous, however I will concur with the reviews here that say the hotel, esp. the rooms are in need of a little refurbishing (however, that did not bother us at all). The Princeville is definitely more upscale...the rooms were incredible (but we were hardly in ours...too much to do on Kauai!)...the views of NaPali and Bali Hai are breathtaking and downright magestic! At the end of the day...I think I would choose the Princeville, because it is on Kauai. If it could capture what KBH does it terms of atmosphere and style...then it would be a done deal. I guess it depends on what is most important to you...

I would suggest deciding which island you really want to visit instead of which hotel...you really can't go wrong with either though, IMO.

aloha!

The Princeville is definitely the nicer hotel, no question.
The question for you is whether it has everything you need for your trip.
If you want the beauty and serentity of Kauai and can do without nightlife, shopping and lots of restaurants, then the Princeville is your choice.

If you need some of the other amenities which are available on Maui but not Kauai, then you should choose a hotel as nice as the Princeville which is located on Maui. There are several.

Thank you. I appreciate the advice. I am leaning towards Kauai.
