Just saw "Man of La Mancha"

I have absolutely no credentials, just an opinion. I was visiting my son and his family (I reside in Long Island) in DC. He arranged the whole evening out and it was spectacular. I didn't hear ONE bad remark about the Man of La Mancha preview what so ever. To me (and obviously others) it was wonderful. There must be a reason why it lasted so long on Broadway. IMO (without any credentials) Brian Stokes was spectacular as was the entire cast. I suspect it will be a big hit on Broadway ... with some of the other new "Biggies" with all the buzz such as Dance with the Vampires, Movin'Out etc. I've had better luck trusting the "average show goers" than the newspaper critics...I still think the critic from the Washington Post was nuts if he "panned it". Carol, I'm with you. I'm just an average "joe" but more times than not I trust the opinions of my friends or family over the "critic's reviews", whether it's movies or plays. I'm living in Manhattan temporily for 7 months and my wife and I are trying to take in as many plays as possible. Some good, some not as good...most are certainly not a waste of time or money. We've got tickets to Man of La Mancha for late next month so can't offer an opinion yet. Recently saw "Dance with the Vampires" and was blown away! If the critics don't give this full approval, I'll write them off for good! Have you seen this yet? I see this as a huge Broadway success.

Lilly: There are better choices for kids aged 10-15 than this show, although there were four extremely well-behaved kids in the row in front of me around 8-13 years of age who were very attentive and didn't look bored at all. However, there are several sexual references in the show and a bit of groping in one scene; some of the more subtle double entendres would probably go over the head of your 10-year old but not the 15-year-old, so it depends on what you're comfortable with. I don't know if you're familiar with the show at all but one of the main characters, Aldonza, is a barmaid who supplements her income the old-fashioned way and one of her main songs is about that; also there's another scene where a sexual assault is implied but not explicitly shown. I wouldn't say the show is inappropriate for all kids; rather, I would say there are other shows that would probably interest them more that would also be more appropriate.

Sorry to say but I don't think there are amy more of those $35. tickets left. I will be in NY for a week and I had to pay full fare (I was open to any day within that week). The original message with the discount code was left here on Fodors by a nice man named "Howard" maybe you can do a search and find his posting. It was approximately 1-2 weeks ago.
