Just got SUPRISE Sugar Bowl tickets for our husbands -- PLEASE help us plan

Hi, a friend of mine just got 4 tickets to the Sugar Bowl. This is going to be a SUPRISE Christmas gift for our husbands. We are looking for 2 hotel rooms, and something to do on New Years Eve night. Any other ideas would be helpful.

My friend found Prytania Oaks hotel. The price for my husband and I would be $484.62 (for 2 nights) with an added $66.62 Tax Recovery Charges And Service Fees. Do you think we can find a better deal? Help!

My family needs to be wise about our finances right now. I don't mind splurging on the tickets, but would like to find reasonably priced accomodations. We are used to staying in fine resorts, but are having to scale down now.

**So, in a nut-shell, I'd like to find clean, SAFE, and reasonably priced accomodations so we can use that $ saved toward entertainment and dining. Being walking distance to the Sugar Bowl would be awesome!!

If you mean Sugar Bowl, Norden, there are no hotels within walking distance. But they have a shuttle that goes between Truckee and the resort. There also is a hotel facing the slopes and I believe that the new Condos are for rent. As for obtaining a hotel room, you may be a little late for this Christmas.

kippy6 is no doubt referring to the Sugar Bowl football game on New Years Day in New Orleans.

I've never heard of the Prytania Oaks. I Googled it and I believe that's a new name for the property. It's an okay (not great) location and the price does't seem that bad. However, I think you can do better by bidding a 4-star downtown or French Quarter hotel via Priceline. Even if you pay the same rate, you'll be closer to the Superdome and at a nicer hotel.

Nearly every hotel downtown/FQ, by the way, is technically walking distance to the game. Just depends on how much you want to hoof it!

I don't really think that reasonably priced is going to be quite that reasonable with the Sugar Bowl.

I'd be sure to make refundable reservations at that one place while you look.

Wow, I didn't realize there is a place called Sugar Bowl! I'll have to look that up. Very Interesting. But I was referring to the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana.

What about New Year's Eve night celebration? I have no idea what to do or where to go. We'd probably just like to go to a neat restaraunt w/maybe live music or a DJ. I guess we'd need reservations somewhere??

I'd book a cancelable backup you can live with and then start stalking priceline and hotwire.

I'm doubtful you'll get too good of a deal for hotel rooms because of the Sugar Bowl and New Years.

You would think that Priceline rooms aren't available at holidays or special events, but people get them quite often for Mardi Gras, New Years and even Jazz Fest! It never hurts to try. Someone recently posted on tripadvisor.com that they got the JW Marriott for $65 over New Years weekend!

Any ideas on a restaurant that would be good to try for New Year's Eve? One that would be offering music or DJ.
