Just clarifying...Time from NYC to EWR

I'm going to try the Air Train to EWR tomorrow for the first time (been successful from NYC to JFK many times, I live in NYC). My plan is to take the subway to Penn Station and then NJ Transit from Penn to EWR. I am planning on taking the 11:43 AM train that gets to the airport at 12:07. Then I will take the Air Train. My flight is at 2:35.

Am I planning this correctly and will I have enough time? Will I see the Air Train once I get off NJ Transit at Newark Airport?

Thank you!

Where is your flight going? How early does the airline advise you to arrive? do you have luggage to check (and possible long lines to stand on).

My last trip to Switzerland I saw a family of 4 with 11 - yes, 11 - large bags they were checking as well as their carry-ons. (God only knows what they were dong - but they were at the counter the entire 20 minutes I was online to check in). Something like this can gum up the whole works.

Going to Denver with only carry-on luggage. I also just printed out my boarding pass. I only have to go and get into security once I get there.

There is no mystery about finding the AirTrain. Newark Airport station is very small.

Your timing seems fine. Here's a complete guide to NY Penn Station to EWR travel: http://bit.ly/cmz9ww

Be sure to purchase a $15 combo (NJTransit + AirTrain) ticket from a Penn Station vending machine or at a ticket window, or you face a $5 on-board premium. You'll need to use the combo ticket twice--once on the NJTransit train, then to pass through the entrance to the AirTrain. Same is true when you return home.

Plenty of time. ... More than enough really, if you are checking no luggage.

Thanks everyone!

Doug, my father taught me to be 5 hours early for a flight. I don't mind roaming around an airport.

I have a sister-in-law who I think leaves for the airport the night before.

I also traveled many times with a colleague and good friend from work who make it about ten minutes before boarding.

UPDATE-
This trip was too easy. I live near Columbus Circle and it took me an hour door to door to the security line at EWR. I got lucky and there was a very short line, so I was really early and had over 2 hours to kill at EWR while waiting for my flight to Denver.

The airport is clearly marked and there are trains back to NYC from the EWR Airport station pretty often. The ride is only about 20-22 mins to NY Penn Station. I will be flying out of EWR more often!

Skiergirl,

Glad you were able to overcome the New Yorker's (that's the magazine's and the natives') perspective of New Jersey, as illustrated by the magazine's famous Steinberg cover, "View of the World from 9th Avenue": 9th Avenue, 10th Avenue, Tokyo. http://bit.ly/bqzIZk
