Is there a place to check bags for just the evening in Manhatten

I am seeing a concert at Madison Square Garden and then flying out of Newark early in the morning. I am staying 30 min. away via subway in the wrong direction and would really like to not have to back there and then to Newark if at all possible. I suspect it would mean no sleep and paying for an extra night.

Any ideas? Can you pay a hotel to check your bags if you are not a guest? Thanks in advance.

Since your concert is at MSG, you might consider the baggage storage at Penn Station (in the Amtrak section, ask for assistance)

There's also a nearby luggage storage service. I haven't used it personally, just read about it on nyc.com

I'm pretty sure you need to show a train ticket out of NY to store luggage at Penn Station.

You need to show an AMTRAK train ticket to use the baggage check in Penn Station.

Huh?

Where are you staying the night before the concert? Where are you staying the night after the concert?

By early in the morning, are you flying in daylight, 6AM or later? Or do you mean you are departing at 12:30AM or 1AM (that is, going from the concert to the airport)?

I believe it was mclaurie who posted this previously:

http://www.schwartztravel.com/

Two locations, one near Penn Station and one near Times Square, both offer luggage storage.

That is the answer, Schwartz Travel. Why are you staying 30 mins. in the wrong direction is my question? You can stay in Jersey City near a PATH train and be much better off.

I suspect the opening hours at Schwartz travel will not work for the OP if he or she has a really early flight.

Amtrak will store your luggage only if you have Amtrak tickets for that day.

Probably easiest to just check them in the luggage room of one of the hotels across the street from MSG.

Thanks for your responses. You friendly New Yorkers make me look forward to visiting your fair city.

I changed where I am staying, and things should be much easier for me now that night. Thanks again for the input.

I just realized how completely useless my post was. I too thought I was providing the link for Schwartz Travel, and clearly mixed that up with early Christmas shopping

I apologize for the UNhelp!

Here's what you do: Since you'll be taking the train from Penn station to Newark airport, hand your luggage to the bellman in the lobby of the Hotel New Yorker right next to Penn Station (NW corner). Enter the lobby, veer to the right and deep past the reception desks, there is a double door - if you wait there and catch the eye of a bellhop, he'll take your stuff, you pay I think 2 bucks per piece or thereabouts, you get your receipt and off you go.

No need to be a hotel guest, you won't be asked.
