I forgot to mention that Taos is an easy day trip from Santa Fe. I would add another night to your Santa Fe stay instead. Otherwise you're spending very little time there.

Hello mlm59,
Regarding budget accomodations: the Best Western Rio Grande Inn in Albuquerque, The Best Western Kachina Lodge in Taos, and the Sante Fe Sage Inn in Santa Fe - were all clean, within walking (10-15 minutes)distance of the town plaza, had a pool and included continental breakfast.

This is probably a dumb question but how do you pronounce "Taos"? Is it as in "house"?

Thanks

Yes, that is the most common way to pronounce Taos or "Towse"

My husband and I have 7 days to spend in October. We were going to fly into ALQ and then go right to Santa Fe for 4 nights, 2 in Taos, and our last night in ALQ. Are we spending too little/too much time in one spot? I was concerned about not spending enough time in ALQ.

I would plan on a day more in ABQ and a day less in either Taos or SF. Depends on the type of activities you like, but ABQ has lots to do and one night won't cover much. Taos can be done with one night and SF can do with 1 less night too. Again, depends on what you want to see and do in each area. There are a lot of overlaps [hiking, outdoor things etx].
