Juneau

May be meeting our daughter late in August in Juneau for 3 days. Would love to see the most I possibly can in that short time. Any suggestions on where and what to see and visit in that surrounding area. Want to see the beauty and the wildlife. Thank you for any suggestions.

Juneau is tiny. When I visited, there was a total of 22 miles of paved roads in and around Juneau. It's an island on the mainland. Visit the downtown area and shop a bit. Go visit the glacier. Maybe take a cruise out on the water. If you want to travel, using Juneau as your departure point, go to the (real) islands. Or stay in Juneau and visit with your daughter.

Sorry - there is no surrounding area. Or there is plenty of surrounding area, but you can't get there by road - Juneau is only accessible by air or sea.

Sure there is! You just have to get out on the water to see it. Take the ferries. Take a tour. But after you fly in to Juneau and see everything in the small area in and around it, you have to get out on the water to see more.

Do not forget to visit Tracy's Crab Shack - the best king crab at all and very atmospheric.

How is taking the bus (local transportation) to Mendenhall Glacier? Does it run frequently? ...or would a car rental be a better alternative--we could have up to 6 people in our party.

If you really want to experience the beauty of Juneau and the Mendenhall Galcier - join a full day trek to the Glacier!! It was the highlight of my trip to Alaska. There is nothing like walking on a glacier and climbing through ice caves! Here is my trip report for the Mendenhall Glacier Trek I did last year - http://livelifeoutofoffice.com/2015/...r-trek-alaska/
