Help!!! Made reservation for DD to JFK that doesn't arrive until midnight and seems there's no public transportation to White Plains that late, except taxi, which will be very expensive, so are looking for other possibilities. Thanks for any advise.

Hrm...seems like taxi would be best for a young woman by herself after midnight. Dunno, though.

There are MetroNorth trains from Grand Central to White Plains until about 1:50 am. However, coming in after midnight she might not make that train via public transit (assuming immigration and picking up luggage and trekking into Manhattan via Air Train and subway or Air Train, LIRR to Penn Station ad cab to Grand Central.). Besides, at that time of night, she would be home in White PLains before she reached Grand Central.

And frankly, I would never attempt that alone with luggage at that time of the morning (Jamaica Station is NOT in a very salubrious neighborhood when deserted).

Rather than taxi I would check into car services from Westchester - or a car service such as Carmel or Dial 7 (you can get discounts on the web site).

Limo service will run $100+. There aren't great public transportation options to WP any time of the day from JFK.

Any chance can fly right into White Plains airport? Lots of service from Chicago, Atlanta, and various other points up and down the east coast.

Another option is to rent a car, one way. I know Hertz has a WP office. It's not a hard drive, especially at that time of day.

Thanks all. I've checked into car rentals, and seems a taxi would be better (esp. since she isn't used to driving in that area). Thanks for the link. Will check it out. Too late to change ticket to White Plains, plus it was more than taxi.
