JFK to Stamford?
Just curious if it seems at all reasonable to try to get to Stamford via public transportation if you fly into JFK at 6:50 PM on a weeknight? We were going to stay in Manhattan one night then take train to Stamford but now time is of the essence...
How long of a trip would it be? We'll be flying from West Coast (non stop) first.

The train from Manhattan to Stamford is 45- 50 minutes. No public transport to Stamford from JFK, but there are van services (which I think someone else can help you with; I don't know them), or you can arrange for an individual pickup through a car service like Carmel (carmellimo.com or 212-666-6666).
Info on the train service from Grand Central Station to Stamford can be found here: http://as0.mta.info/mnr/schedules/sched_form.cfm

There is also an express bus from JFK that goes directly to a stop right across the street from Grand Central Terminal, where you woud get your train to Stamford. The bus takes at least 30-40 minutes, though could be much more based on traffic.

There is also a limo service direct from JFK to Stamford. http://www.ctlimo.com/index.cfm?pg=sched&destid=3
The rate is $57 pp -- so if you're a family group you might do better hiring a car service. Usual rate is about $90.

I would try CT Limo or the Red Dot Shuttle. If you have bags, it could be a hassle to take a taxi or bus into Grand Central, then transfer to the train. The train from Grand Central to Stamford takes about an hour (a little less if it's an express, a little longer if it's a local).
A car service will run you almost $100.
