Jazzland-worth a visit?

You guys are great. I appreciate all of your feedback!! I am a big rolloer coaster fanatic, and read where a new amusement park opened in 2000 called Jazzland. Anyone been there? I guess there is a big coaster some 12 stories high. Is this place worth a visit?? Again, thank you!!

I've never been there but Jazzland did file for bankruptcy last month because of poor attendance. Better check to see if it is still open before making the trip.

Jazzland is not as big as the Six Flags theme parks, but it has a local flavor you might enjoy. We went in October and the place was practically empty--which made it possible (fortunately for us) to walk right on the rides. It's got more of a carnival feel with lots of the typical rides you'll see at a fair. But there are a couple of roller coasters much like the Greased Lightning and SkyScreamer that serious coasters fans enjoy. From what I hear, it's still open even though they've sold out to Six Flags.

Jazzland is a joke. If you like roller coasters this is NOT the place to go. Compared to Magic Mountain and other Six Flags parks this park is rank amatuer. It's more like the travelling carnivals I used to go to as a kid. One a scale of 1 to 10, the coaster ranks a negative 5. Having said all that, Six Flags has just purchased the park after it went bankrupt, so maybe they can turn it around and bring it up to standards. The park was a good idea, seeing as how the nest closest is Astro World in Houston or Six Flags in Atlant, but the original owners just didn't have the bankroll needed. Best bet is to just head into the French Quarter and see the sites. That can be a better ride and you don't even have to leave the ground.

Actually, the roller coaster is quite good. I've been on quite a few and it's certainly midrange but hardly the "negative 5" given the previous poster. I'd say a 6 or 7. It's wooden and quite fast!

The park itself is fun although there's a lot of attractions to be added if it wants to be a Six Flags-caliber park. I'd say it's a fun daytime diversion if you live in N.O. or will be here for several days but I would not seek it out.
